Winter on the Wall

We’ve had a very busy 2016 at Leazes Head, with so many guests walking Hadrian’s Wall. We’ve had guests from Tazmania to Alaska, Israel to Finland! We’ve met so many lovely people with great stories to tell and we’re looking forward to meeting all our new guests in 2017!

We’ll be open again for business in April next year and we are already getting booked up fast! To book Leazes Head, go to our booking page on this website or email me at kathy@79.170.40.236 and I’ll be happy to help.

Bridge Repairs at Hexham

Network Rail are repairing the railway bridge in Hexham and this means the road will be closed from 6th June until mid-July!!

Our guests staying at Leazes Head during this time (6th June – 18th July) will need to check their travel arrangements if starting or finishing their walk in Humshaugh. If arriving by train from Newcastle, it might be better to get off at Corbridge and arrange a taxi. If getting a train from Hexham to the airport or East or West train routes- check timetables and order a taxi to either Corbridge Railway Station or Haydon Bridge Railway Station.
The AD122 and 680 ‘Tynedale Links’ bus to Humshaugh will be diverted to the West Road junction into Hexham. Add more time to your journey to allow for these disruptions.
Also please remember that Hexham is still open and there are lots of lovely cafe’s, shops and things to see and do, not least Hexham Abbey!!

Things To Do…

We are open for business on March 7th!

Guests visiting Leazes Head should take the time to visit Hexham and the Abbey. The Abbey is over 1300 years old and now has a museum with lots of interesting artefacts.

The Saxon Crypt is well worth a visit, there are little rooms, and tunnels from Wilfrid’s original church. You can also get a cup of tea and slice of cake in the new cafe.

On March 25th-26th, Hexham is having an Easter Spring Fair in the Mart.

Not many visitors to Hexham know that it boasts a lovely little cinema called The Forum. Not only will it be showing the latest releases like Dad’s Army but is also shows The Royal Opera House; Boris Godunov, The Royal Ballet- Giselle and The National Theatre Live: As You Like It.

We’ve had some beautiful sunrises recently in Humshaugh. This was taken last week after a light dusting of snow.

Despite the cold weather, the woodpeckers have returned and have now taken up residence in the wooded area next to the tennis court.

The snow drops are already in flower and daffodils  are starting to come through. Spring is on it’s way!

We’ve had quite a few snow showers this week  and Leazes Head was looking lovely in the morning sun.

I haven’t seen any  intrepid walkers out since our first guests of the year in January, although the car park at Housteads was almost full at the weekend.

Winter Visitors

We had a lovely family of deer visit the garden today, managed to take a quick photo before they disappeared behind the stables.

They appear from time to time but I mostly see them in the surrounding fields along with the beautiful heron on the nearby pond.

Happy New Year!

2015 has got off to a good start with our first intrepid walkers of 2015  arriving on the 6th January. Luckily the weather was kind to them and they were able to complete their walk without the snow and wind that we’ve been having in the last few days.
