USA Today travel writer Josh Roberts described Hadrian’s Wall as “England’s top ancient monument.” Of course I’m biased and I agree with him, it is fantastic. There is nothing better than standing on the bleak windswept frontier watching the mist rise from the crisp frosty moorland. We are, however, a county bursting with ‘fantastic’ things to see! – Visit Northumberland lists all of the up and coming events as well as the castles, National Park, stately homes etc.
A visit to nearby Kirkharle Courtyard is worthwhile, especially as it is “The 2016 Year of the English Garden” Kirkharle is the birthplace of Lancelot Capability Brown and 2016 marks the 300th anniversary of his birth. Kirkharle also has a very good cafe with lots of homemade cakes!
