Winter Sunrise at Leazes Head

Snowy morning at Leazes Head

Snowy morning at Leazes Head

We’ve had some beautiful sunrises recently in Humshaugh. This was taken last week after a light dusting of snow.

Despite the cold weather, the woodpeckers have returned and have now taken up residence in the wooded area next to the tennis court.

The snow drops are already in flower and daffodils  are starting to come through. Spring is on it’s way!

Snowy Day

Snowy day at Leazes Head

Snowy day at Leazes Head

We’ve had quite a few snow showers this week  and Leazes Head was looking lovely in the morning sun.

I haven’t seen any  intrepid walkers out since our first guests of the year in January, although the car park at Housteads was almost full at the weekend.

Winter Visitors

We had a lovely family of deer visit the garden today, managed to take a quick photo before they disappeared behind the stables.

They appear from time to time but I mostly see them in the surrounding fields along with the beautiful heron on the nearby pond.

Happy New Year!

2015 has got off to a good start with our first intrepid walkers of 2015  arriving on the 6th January. Luckily the weather was kind to them and they were able to complete their walk without the snow and wind that we’ve been having in the last few days.

We are closing for annual maintenance and ‘spring cleaning’ now until the beginning of March and have already got lots of bookings for the spring and the summer season. You can check out our facebook and twitter pages as well for updates.

Northern Lights

The Northern Lights are supposed to be visible from Northern England tonight and possibly over the weekend.

I’ve missed them a few times but will be setting my clock and getting my camera ready just in case!

First Six Weeks

What an amazing 6 weeks it’s been! We’ve met so many new people staying at our B&B from all over the world! We’ve enjoyed hearing all the tales whilst walking the Hadrian’s Wall.

Looking forward to meeting our new guests over the summer.

I drive past this field 4 times a day on the school run and thought it was about time I stopped to look.

The field lies next to the Stanegate at Newbrough which is the old Roman road that ran from Corstopitum (Corbridge) to Luguvalium (Carlisle).

I was surprised when reading up on it just how many Roman forts lie on the Stanegate and most of them I didn’t know existed!

The more well known forts are Corstopitum and Vindolanda but I didn’t know there were at least 8 other forts, which have now gone over time. There was even a fort in Newbrough and Brampton Old Church!
